Navy & Coral Crazy

Navy and Coral seem to be two big colors of the moment, and so to go along with my coral dress and navy cardigan I made a navy and coral eye makeup today.

Things I used:

Ulta brand blue eyeshadow palate

NYC neutral shadow palate (it's the "green eye" eye specific shadow palate)

CoverGirl three shade coral blush

Falsies "Big Eyes" Mascara

Black ELF liquid liner

Ulta Brush Set

& An Eyelash Curler (any will do)

Step by step in photos:

Put a neutral color all over the eye

Use straight edge brush for navy in crease

Use soft edge brush to spread darkest pink of blush over eyelid

Line top lid

Line half of bottom lid

Use medium pink on straight edge brush to seal liner 

(go lightly around the eyeliner. Try not to go OVER it, but just around it)

Use lightest pink in the inside corner of lid

Use top "big eyes" mascara brush on top lashes

Use bottom brush on bottom lashes

Go back over top lashes with bottom brush

Curl lashes

Just to show the difference & amazingness in this tiny mascara bottle. The two sized wands are AMAZING. Left eye - done. Right eye - done except no mascara. Look at what a difference it makes! This stuff is my new fave.

Nails

It's summer. And I'm having a hello kitty-gasm lately. So I decided to mix my favorite summer yummy with HK. Strawberry Nails and toes and a Hello Kitty accent thumb. 

Just paint the full nail a cute pinkey color. I used Sinful Colors Professional Island Coral. Then small black dots (Kiss nail art paint in black). And Milani Nail Art Green Sketch for the "leaves". 

Hello Kitty Accent Nail:

White - Revlon nail art dual tip expressionist. White on one end black on the other. 

Whiskers and eyes - Revlon nail art dual tip ( the black side)

Nose - Orly "Hook Up"

Bow - Revlon Nail Art Expressionist dual tip "Pinkasso"

And for bottom and top coat:

Sally Hansen dual duty top and base coat 

Cute Enough to Eat

So, I was on pinterest tooling around and thought "I bet there's cute halloween nails out there"

I saw these, Candy Corn, and thought to myself "i'm so dumb. why didn't I think of that on my own?"

Now the real sugary sweet confection looks like this:

Because the orange is in the middle (and it's the darkest color) I painted half my nail yellow and half white. I let this dry then painted an orange stripe in between.

Clearly the orange stripe is too wide, but it was a first attempt. However, I did get several compliments and "Oh! Her nails look like candy corn!" comments.


Time taken: 15 minutes
Difficulty level: Low
Pro-tip: DO NOT USE SCOTCH TAPE. It will take the paint off. If you want perfect lines either buy the stuff designed for nails or use something flat and straight to make an edge. The whole "just use scrapbook scissors and scotch tape to make cute nails" BS. Doesn't work. It strips the pain.

Ribbons in Her Hair

Saw this adorble pin that had a waterfall braid that was tied off with a ribbon (and the ribbon was also the headband) for a side pony.

I decided to do my own variations on this:

My first try was actually just pinning the ribbon as a headband and then bowing it off at the top of the braid and braiding the remaining ribbon down. I was less than satisfied.

This way took 15 minutes and minimal effort.

Take 2 I waterfalled the back, tied the bow, and continued the braid down still integrating the ribbon.

This way took 20 minutes and medium effort (mostly because of the waterfall on the back of my head)

Take three I did the same maneuver, but I moved the bow down to the bottom of the braid.

This took 35 minutes and medium / hard effort because I had to keep redoing the waterfall on the back of my head to make it look decent. I did not have a mirror behind and in front at this time, and it made it REALLY hard. 

Basically, if you'd like to braid a ribbon into your hair and have it as your headband, I think the bow looks better at the bottom. Or perhaps just try like the original pinner did...waterfall, bow, pony. However, I did like the way the blue looked in my braid.


BIG TIPS:
If you're going to use the same ribbon for braid and headband:
1. PIN IT IN!      You absolutely must bobby pin it to both sides of your head before you begin the waterfall braid or it will fall out.

2. Have access to a mirror in front and behind you.     I'm lucky to have a mirror front closet that is split doors so I can have a front and back mirror to do back of head braids. If you don't have this, it will be harder for you to accomplish.


3.  Have spare bobby pins!    There will be little whispies that insist on getting out of line. You need bobby pins to secure them back into place. Just twist as you work them into the braid, and they'll be almost seamless.

Miss Makeup

So I decided while on my beach trip with boy and his family that it would be the PERFECT time to try out my makeup pins. The board I am pulling from is: http://pinterest.com/marlipaige/makeup/

I called my version the "Island Eye"

It is a yellow lid, red crease, and green under eye shadow.

I paired it with wet beach waves, turquoise necklace, and a tropical dress for an "islandy" look. I was on vacation. It seemed appropriate.

All in all it took me about 15 minutes to do. It wasn't TOO hard, but it also didn't come out just like the picture. However, for a first try I thought it went well and looked cute.



Next: I tried "The Adele Eye"

This one I probably took 45 minutes trying to make it look like the picture with no real luck. My eyes ended up being too dark, and I couldn't seem to get the creases even on both sides. I also should've put a light shadow overtop when I was done but didn't.

No, mine did not look that good. that's why there are not pictures. It was basically swept to one side by a braid across my head. That took another 20 minutes, and I wasn't dissatisfied, but I wasn't overly satisfied with it either.

THIS ladies and gentlemen is why you DON'T BUY EYELINER FROM THE DOLLAR TREE. It was gloppy. I couldn't get it to go on straight. It looked terrible. And so I covered it up with a mask.

Trial and error PINTOPIA

So I heard the other day of a blogger who keeps track of everything that she pins on pinterest that she then tries out. She shows step by step how she followed the directions, and how it went. And I thought to myself "WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THAT!?!"So...we'll see how that goes. I will probably throw in individual projects that I didn't get off pinterest as well. I will probably just add those to pinterest for others.

So! Let the PINTOPIA begin!
